Reflections from Classmates
Zinzans response for me
I like how you clearly explained how your understanding of technology in education changed throughout your reflection. I especially liked how you connected the idea of digital natives to your own experiences as a student and explained how the readings challenged your original assumptions. I also liked your discussion of the digital divide because you recognised that technology can create inequalities rather than simply being a solution for everyone. Your connection to your future role as a teacher was also strong, particularly your point about using technology purposefully and considering whether it actually improves learning. I wish you included a little more detail about your personal feelings and reactions to the ideas you discussed, as this would make the reflection feel more personal. What if you organised your reflection using the Gibbs Cycle subheadings of Description, Feelings, Evaluation, Analysis, Conclusion and Action Plan? I think this would make it easier to follow the different stages of your reflection and clearly show how your thinking developed.
Luke Edgar response for me
Feedback for Gilbert Duffy Reflection 2: Your blog was really really strong Gilbert, I think you'll receive a great mark. Good luck.
I like: how you made "sustainability" feel real instead of just an idea. Instead of just saying "tech progress might not be sustainable," you gave two concrete examples. The Microsoft/Windows 11 statistic (Sriram, 2023) shows how much e-waste new technology can create, and bringing in Sinozic et al. (2018) to talk about job loss too shows you thought about more than just the environment.
I wish: You'd spent a bit more time on the feeling section of Gibbs Reflective Cycle. You say you felt "uncomfortable" but move on quickly, going deeper into that feeling would make the reflection stronger, not just the analysis part.
What if: you named one specific way you'd actually teach e-waste or AI's environmental cost in a future classroom? Right now the action plan stays fairly general, a concrete example would make it more memorable and classroom ready.
